Tain Golf Club - 10th hole

On Sunday 12th June Tain Golf Club held a charity Open Family Fun Day in aid of MFR's cash for kids and junior development at the club. We handed a cheque for £887.50 to MFR cash for kids and delighted to hear this is going to their "back to school appeal". It will be used to buy full school uniforms for disadvantaged children in the Tain area.

The weather was good and around 500 people, members, non members, young and old turned up to enjoy the day. They were treated to a BBQ from Donna our chef at Old Tom's Restaurant and there were many activities, both inside the clubhouse and out to keep everyone amused.

Batman and Robin were at the door to greet guests with welcome bags and a rather large Chewbacca mingled all day scaring and thrilling the kids in equal measure!

The 1st and 18th fairways were turned in to a mini 6 hole course, there was a 9 hole short course just for kids, target chipping and 2 fun putting greens. All equipment was provided and it gave some the chance to pick up a golf club for the first time.

The lads from Tain Thistle Football Club were a fantastic help on the day with footgolf and the extremely popular beat the goalie. There was a bouncy castle, Pinata and our Captain and Vice Captian completely dispelled the notion of stuffy golf club officials by being spatted with water and pie faced time and time again.

There was more fun inside the clubhouse with a colouring competition, face painting, lucky dip, bottle and home baking stalls and a huge raffle.

We had Neale Salisbury take some brilliant professional photos and Ronny from Highland Sky Cam provide some fascinating drone footage and photos.

Magi Vass, Secretary said

"I can't thank enough everyone who helped to make this such a successful day. There was huge support from local businesses who were so generous in their continued support of the club. Members donated items and helped on the day, they welcomed every one with open arms and their enthusiasm was infectious. Our aim was to welcome new friends to the club to have a good time and show that we are open to all. Judging by the happy (painted)  faces and great fun atmosphere  I think we achieved this while raising money for two good causes (over £1500). I sincerely hope that everyone will come back to the club soon as we have a lovely atmosphere and great food at Old Tom's Bar & Restaurant. Also, it has never been easier or cheaper to take up golf. Social membership for a year is only £10 (£5 to those who came along on the day) which includes a 12.5% discount on food and drink and children's membership starts at £10 for the year!"
